My Top Recommended Baby Products: Essentials from a Newborn Photographer and Mum

As a newborn photographer and mum of two, I’ve spent plenty of time around babies—both in my own home and in my studio. Over the years, I’ve discovered a few must-have baby products that make life easier for new parents. Whether you’re preparing for your little one’s arrival or looking for thoughtful gifts, these essentials are ones I swear by.

1. Euky Bear Vaporiser
Newborns are extra sensitive to colds and congestion and often you don't know you need this item until your little one is already unwell, which is why I always recommend the Euky Bear Vaporiser. This gentle steam vaporiser helps keep the air moist, easing sniffles and coughs so your baby can sleep more comfortably. I used this for my own little ones, and it made a world of difference during those inevitable first-year colds and beyond.
2. Digital Thermometer
A reliable thermometer is a must-have for any new parent. Babies can’t tell us when they’re feeling unwell, so having a digital thermometer on hand gives you peace of mind. I recommend choosing one that provides quick, accurate readings—especially during those late-night temperature checks.

3. Love to Dream Swaddles
Traditional swaddling can be tricky (especially at 2 AM!), and I always worried about my baby unwrapping themselves in the middle of the night - which is why I love Love to Dream Swaddles. These amazing sleep sacks allow babies to sleep with their arms up in a natural position, which can help with startle reflexes while still keeping them snug. Plus, they’re a lifesaver for sleep-deprived parents—just zip and go!
4. White Noise Machine: Ergo Pouch White Noise Machine
Newborns are used to constant sound in the womb, a white noise machine helps recreate that comforting environment, leading to better sleep for both baby and parents. While phone apps work in a pinch, a dedicated machine offers consistent, high-quality sound without interruptions from notifications or battery drain.
One of my top picks is the Ergo Pouch White Noise Machine. It’s portable, rechargeable, and has multiple sound options, making it perfect for both home and travel. I use this noise machine in my photography sessions and I love how it has different sound options, volumes and even a dim light!
5. Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump
For breastfeeding mums, the Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump is a game-changer. This simple, hands-free pump catches letdown milk on one side while you feed on the other—saving every precious drop! It’s affordable, easy to clean, and perfect for building a small milk stash with minimal effort. I used mine almost every feed for the first 8 weeks after my daughter was born and I was so thankful for the milk stash I had, allowing family members to help with some feeds.
6. Gentle Baby Skincare Products
Newborn skin is delicate, so choosing gentle, fragrance-free skincare is key. Products like QV Baby Moisturising Cream and Gaia Natural Baby Bath & Body Wash help keep baby’s skin soft without irritation.
8. Nappies and Wipes (Because You Can Never Have Too Many!)
Whether you use disposable or cloth nappies, stocking up is a must. I always recommend keeping a mix of sizes on hand—babies grow so fast! Water-based wipes are also a great choice to avoid irritation.
I highly recommend signing up to a subscription on Amazon - I never run out of wipes and it works out cheaper too!
Final Thoughts
As both a newborn photographer and a mum, I know how overwhelming it can be to choose the right baby products. Hopefully, this list helps make those first few months a little easier! If you’ve tried any of these, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
